On a cold Valentine's Day in 2017, the life of 22-year-old Marcus Holmes, an African American male from Laplace, Louisiana, was cut short in the Glen Oaks area of Baton Rouge. In the early hours, at approximately 2:30 a.m., deputies from the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the intersection of Maplewood Drive and Matthews Street following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Holmes deceased at the scene, a victim of fatal gunshot wounds.
