In the early morning hours of July 23, 2017, a celebration turned to tragedy in Shreveport, Louisiana. Joseph Lewis Hubbard, a man known to be friendly, outgoing, and helpful, was celebrating his 56th birthday. A handyman and mechanic by trade, he was a familiar and well-liked figure in his community. The joyous occasion, however, was shattered by an act of violence that would cut his life short.
Shortly after 3:00 a.m., Shreveport Police were dispatched to the 600 block of 73rd Street following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered the body of Joseph Hubbard inside his residence. Investigators determined that an assailant had confronted Hubbard, chasing him into his own home where he was shot multiple times. The life of the 56-year-old male was tragically ended on the very day he should have been celebrating another year of life.
The investigation into the senseless killing of Joseph Hubbard led detectives to identify a suspect. Through witness interviews and evidence gathered at the scene, authorities zeroed in on 25-year-old Zarrien Alexander. For two months, the search for Hubbard's alleged killer continued until September 23, 2017. On that day, patrol officers spotted Alexander and took him into custody without incident. He was subsequently booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count of second-degree murder.
