In the spring of 2018, a fatal encounter in Baton Rouge claimed the life of 23-year-old Joel Fealing, a Black / African American male. On the evening of March 21st, events unfolded in the parking lot of the Neighborhood Laundry on Greenwell Springs Road that would end in bloodshed. What began as a purported drug transaction between two men escalated into a violent exchange of gunfire.
Inside a vehicle, Fealing and another man, 29-year-old Dwayne Bradley, were involved in the transaction
when shots were fired. Both men sustained gunshot wounds during the altercation. Fealing was struck in the lower extremity and was transported to a local hospital for his injuries, but he ultimately succumbed to the wounds and was pronounced dead.
Bradley was also injured in the exchange, suffering a gunshot wound to his leg. He managed to exit the vehicle and walk to a nearby address before collapsing. He was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Following an investigation into the shooting, authorities identified Dwayne Bradley as the suspect in Fealing's death.
On April 4, 2018, Dwayne Bradley was apprehended by the Louisiana State Police Fugitive Task Force. He was subsequently arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. Bradley faced a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Joel Fealing.
