In the spring of 2018, the quiet community of Belle Rose, Louisiana, was rocked by a violent act that ended the life of a beloved local man. Derrick 'Big D' Davis, a 41-year-old African American male and a native of nearby Paincourtville, was fatally shot on the evening of Saturday, April 7, 2018. The Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a call around 4:45 p.m. and discovered Davis's body on Grisaffe Lane in Belle Rose.
