On a Sunday evening, July 24, 2022, a tragic event unfolded on a stretch of LA 3127 in Hahnville, Louisiana, claiming the life of 25-year-old Davin Dwight Labranch Jr. That night, Labranch received a phone call requesting he pick someone up from a party. He, along with a friend, drove to a gathering at the Killona Volunteer Fire Department. As they were leaving the party with two passengers in Labranch's 2008 gray Audi A5, shots suddenly rang out.

Charles Parish Sheriff's Office reported that evidence from the scene indicated an exchange of gunfire between someone inside Labranch's car and an unidentified second vehicle. In the midst of this violent exchange, Labranch was fatally wounded, believed to have been caught in the crossfire. When deputies arrived at the scene around 8:00 P.M., they discovered Labranch deceased inside his vehicle. Two other occupants of the car had also sustained gunshot wounds and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. A third passenger was unharmed.
The investigation into the death of Davin Labranch Jr. remains open, and as of now, it is an unsolved homicide. Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the shooting. During a search of Labranch's vehicle, detectives discovered a large amount of cash and narcotics.
