In the small community of Golden Meadow, Louisiana, a domestic dispute escalated into a tragic act of violence that claimed the life of 29-year-old Michelle Stone. On Saturday, May 26, 2018, an argument erupted between Stone and her 46-year-old boyfriend, Shane Billiot. The confrontation took a dire turn when Billiot armed himself with a shotgun.
Fearing for their lives, Stone and another woman fled the residence, seeking refuge in a truck parked outside.
One of Stone and Billiot's children also managed to get into the vehicle with them. However, their attempt to escape was cut short when Billiot emerged from the home and fired two rounds into the truck, striking both women. The child in the truck was physically unharmed.
Law enforcement and emergency services were dispatched to the scene on West 223rd Street at approximately 2:20 p.m. Upon their arrival, the other female victim, despite her injuries, was able to exit the truck and recount the harrowing events. Both Michelle Stone and the other woman had sustained gunshot wounds to their head and neck. They were transported to University Medical Center in New Orleans for treatment.
Tragically, Michelle Stone succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at 11:25 a.m. the following day, May 27, 2018. The other woman survived and was reported to be in stable condition. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Shane Billiot turned the shotgun on himself, taking his own life. The Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office investigated the incident, classifying it as a murder-suicide. As the sole suspect died at the scene, no arrests were made in connection with Michelle Stone's death.
