In the early morning hours of November 12, 2018, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 37-year-old Westley Pullins, a male resident, was found deceased in the driver's seat of his vehicle. The car was located on Barber Street near Aldrich Drive, not far from his home at the Fairway View Apartments on College Drive. An investigation determined he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Authorities were initially without suspects or a motive in the fatal shooting.
However, the investigation progressed, and two suspects were identified: 23-year-old James-Michael Johnson and 24-year-old John Simpson. According to a witness, Johnson and Simpson had arranged to purchase drugs from Pullins. During the course of this alleged transaction, Johnson reportedly brandished a firearm and shot Pullins.
Following the identification of the suspects, a search ensued, leading to their apprehension in different states. John Simpson was located and arrested in Houston, Texas, while James-Michael Johnson was found and taken into custody in Chandler, Arizona. Both men were awaiting extradition back to Louisiana to face charges in connection with Westley Pullins' death. Johnson was to be charged with first-degree murder, and Simpson faced a charge of principal to first-degree murder. Simpson was subsequently booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
