In the quiet town of Independence, Louisiana, a tragedy unfolded that left a family shattered and a community in search of answers. Daytra Miller, a 42-year-old African American woman, and her 13-year-old son, Robert West Jr., were found shot to death in their home on December 23, 2018. The discovery of their bodies at their residence on the corner of Fontana Road and Labruzza Lane sent shockwaves through the close-knit community just days before Christmas.
