In the warm evening hours of June 24, 2019, in New Orleans, Louisiana, the life of 25-year-old Davante Robertson, a Black male, was tragically cut short. Sixth District officers were dispatched to the 2800 block of Clara Street around 8:34 p.m. following a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Robertson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate response, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Two days later, the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office formally identified him as the victim.
The New Orleans Police Department's Homicide Unit immediately launched an investigation into the fatal shooting. As detectives delved into the case, they were able to identify Lamont Reed, born on June 6, 1994, as a suspect in Robertson's murder. Investigators gathered enough evidence to positively identify Reed as the person responsible for the shooting and subsequently secured an arrest warrant for him on a charge of second-degree murder.
The search for Reed extended beyond the city limits of New Orleans. On July 26, 2019, a coordinated effort between the NOPD's Violent Offender Warrant Squad and the U.S. Marshals led them to a residence in Picayune, Mississippi. There, they located and arrested Lamont Reed without incident. It was believed that Reed had fled to Mississippi in an attempt to evade capture by law enforcement. He was taken into custody to face the charge for the murder of Davante Robertson.
