In a heartbreaking incident on June 28, 2019, 2-year-old Ranaldo Bennett, a Black male, lost his life in Shreveport, Louisiana, due to what authorities have described as an accidental shooting. The tragic event led to the arrest of a suspect in connection with the young child's death.
According to reports from the Shreveport Police Department, the shooting was the result of the mishandling of a firearm.
Investigators determined that the individual responsible for the fatal accident was Henry Lee O'Neal Jr. O'Neal was subsequently taken into custody and faced charges related to the toddler's death.
The Caddo Parish Coroner's Office officially identified Ranaldo Bennett as the victim of the accidental shooting. Following an investigation into the circumstances of the incident, law enforcement officials proceeded with legal action against O'Neal. He was charged with negligent homicide, illegal use of a weapon, and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
The case proceeded through the legal system, and in February 2020, Henry Lee O'Neal Jr. pleaded guilty to the charge of negligent homicide. As a result of his guilty plea, he was sentenced to serve five years in prison. This concluded the legal proceedings surrounding the tragic and untimely death of young Ranaldo Bennett.
