AhmodzionDre Bailey, a 19-year-old Black man, was from Sarepta, a small town in Webster Parish, Louisiana. His life in the region north of Shreveport was not without difficulty. In April of 2022, when he was 18, Bailey had an encounter with law enforcement in the neighboring town of Springhill. He was arrested by local police and charged with illegal use of a firearm during a crime of violence.
It was a chapter that preceded the final, tragic one in his young life.
Less than a year later, on the evening of Thursday, February 23, 2023, violence found AhmodzionDre in the city of Shreveport. Officers with the Shreveport Police Department were dispatched to a shooting reported on Michigan Boulevard. At the scene, they discovered Bailey suffering from a gunshot wound. He was still alive, and first responders rushed him to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, AhmodzionDre Bailey died from his injuries at the hospital. His death was classified as a homicide, and detectives immediately began working the case. The investigation into the circumstances of the shooting soon pointed toward a suspect who was also a teenager.
Police were able to identify and locate the juvenile they believed was responsible for the fatal shooting, and an arrest was made. Following the arrest, authorities announced that the teenage suspect would face prosecution as an adult for the killing of AhmodzionDre Bailey. The case against the accused is currently proceeding through the court system and is in litigation.
