In the late hours of August 3, 2019, a life was tragically cut short in Houma, Louisiana. Andrew Paul Naquin, a 30-year-old male resident of the city, was fatally wounded in a chaotic altercation that unfolded in the parking lot of a local nightclub. The night's festivities had concluded, but as patrons lingered, a dispute escalated into violence.
The confrontation, which occurred around 2:15 a.m.
outside Vino's Nightclub on Corporate Drive, involved Naquin and another man, who authorities later described as the aggressors in the incident. A fight broke out between them and three other men. In the midst of the struggle, gunshots rang out, and Naquin was struck. The three other men involved in the fight immediately fled the scene in a silver Dodge Charger.
First responders arrived to find Naquin with gunshot wounds. He was treated at the scene before being airlifted to a hospital in New Orleans, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Investigators quickly broadcast a description of the suspects' vehicle. An off-duty sheriff's deputy, who was working a security detail at a nearby casino, spotted the silver Dodge Charger and initiated a traffic stop.
The three occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody and questioned by detectives. However, following the initial investigation and a consultation with the Terrebonne Parish District Attorney's Office, no charges were filed against them. Authorities indicated that self-defense may have been a factor in the shooting, a consideration supported by video evidence of the altercation.
