In the late afternoon of Sunday, September 8, 2019, tragedy struck in a New Orleans neighborhood, forever altering the lives of a local family. On that day, 16-year-old Steven Anthony Mercadel was in the 3200 block of Morrice Duncan Drive when the sound of gunfire shattered the calm. First responders rushed to the scene to find the young man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life.
