In the late afternoon of November 15, 2019, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace at the Linwood Homes apartment complex in Shreveport, Louisiana, tragically ending the life of 2-year-old Kynsley DeMiya Robinson, a Black female. The young girl was in a car at the gate of the complex with her 22-year-old father, Roderick Robinson, and another man when another vehicle approached and an occupant opened fire.
A bullet struck Kynsley in the head, and her father was wounded in the leg.
First responders rushed both to a nearby hospital. Despite medical efforts, Kynsley succumbed to her injuries the following day. The senseless act of violence sent shockwaves through the community, prompting a swift police investigation into the shooting that claimed a toddler's life.
The day after Kynsley's death, a suspect surrendered to the authorities. Ta'Darius Upshaw, 19 years old at the time, turned himself in to the Shreveport Police. He was subsequently arrested and faced serious charges for his alleged role in the fatal shooting.
Upshaw was charged with one count of second-degree murder for the death of Kynsley Robinson and one count of aggravated assault in connection with the shooting. He was booked into the local detention center, with his bond set at $750,000. The investigation continued to piece together the events that led to the tragic and untimely death of a young child.
