In the small town of Homer, Louisiana, the life of 24-year-old Ashton 'Cutter' Nelson was abruptly and violently cut short. On the night of December 17, 2019, his body was discovered inside his vehicle on Norton Street. He had been shot multiple times in what authorities believe may have been a drug-related incident. In an attempt to conceal the crime, those responsible had tried to set both Nelson and his car ablaze.
The grim discovery was made near the intersection of Memphis and Adams Streets just before midnight, sending shockwaves through the community.
The Homer Police Department, with assistance from the Louisiana State Police and the State Fire Marshal's Office, launched an immediate and intensive investigation into the brutal slaying. Their efforts quickly led them to two teenage suspects. JeTerryious Burns, 19, was taken into custody on the same day Nelson's body was found. Two days later, on December 19, 2019, a second 19-year-old, Chauncell Vederrion Jenkins, was also apprehended. Both young men were subsequently charged with second-degree murder in connection with Ashton Nelson's death and were booked into the Claiborne Parish Detention Center. Burns' bond was set at $500,000.
