In the early morning hours of January 10, 2020, the body of 42-year-old Ludie Cochrane, a White/Caucasian male, was discovered on the back porch of a residence in the 1000 block of Reynes Street in New Orleans' Lower Ninth Ward. The New Orleans Police Department was dispatched to the scene around 2:30 a.m. and initially classified the death as 'unclassified' pending further investigation.
Following an autopsy, the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office determined that Cochrane had sustained a
fatal gunshot wound. This finding led to the reclassification of the case as a homicide, prompting a murder investigation by the New Orleans Police Department's Homicide Unit.
Despite the ruling of his death as a homicide, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or a potential motive in the shooting death of Ludie Cochrane. The investigation into his murder remains open and active. Law enforcement officials have urged anyone with information pertaining to the case to come forward and contact the Homicide Unit or to provide anonymous tips through Crimestoppers. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with this case.
