Catherine Miller, a 31-year-old woman of Filipino descent, was fatally shot in Iota, Louisiana, in what authorities have described as an act of domestic violence. A resident of Eunice, Louisiana, Miller was a Licensed Practical Nurse and the director at United Medical Staffing. She was a mother to a five-year-old daughter.
On Thursday, April 2, 2020, Miller went to a residence on Ye Ole Country Road in Iota for a child custody exchange.
During this meeting, she was shot and killed.
Following the incident, authorities arrested Austin Gatte II, a 40-year-old man from Iota. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping in connection with Miller's death. Gatte was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail. The investigation into the shooting remained ongoing.
