On a summer evening in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a dispute turned deadly, claiming the life of 34-year-old Jerome Kinchen. The shooting occurred around 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2020, in the 4800 block of Gus Young Avenue, near North Foster Drive. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered Kinchen had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
The investigation into the shooting led detectives to identify 22-year-old Armon Wilson as the suspect.
Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an earlier altercation between the two men. Wilson was also injured in the incident, having been struck by gunfire and requiring transportation to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Following his treatment, Wilson was taken into custody.
Armon Wilson was subsequently booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. He faced charges of first-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon. In November 2025, Wilson, then 27, accepted a plea deal. He pleaded guilty to amended charges of manslaughter, obstruction of justice, and possession of a firearm. As a result of the plea agreement, he was sentenced to 30 years in prison. He will serve concurrent sentences of 30 years for manslaughter, 20 years for obstruction of justice, and 15 years for the firearm charge.
