In the summer of 2020, the life of 19-year-old Nizual Whittine was tragically cut short in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. On the evening of August 15th, Whittine was the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred during an attempted robbery on Delaware Street. Another individual was also wounded in the incident but survived with non-life-threatening injuries. Following the shooting, Whittine was moved from the scene to Hyacinth Avenue, where authorities were ultimately called.
However, his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead that same night.
The Baton Rouge Police Department quickly launched an investigation into the homicide. Their efforts led to the identification of two suspects, 19-year-olds D'Quan Lee and Treavon Lowery. On September 1, 2020, both teenagers were apprehended by U.S. Marshals. They were subsequently booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on multiple serious charges.
Lee and Lowery are facing accusations of first-degree murder for their alleged role in Whittine's death. In addition to the murder charge, they have also been charged with attempted first-degree murder, stemming from the injury of the second victim. The charges also include armed robbery, reflecting the circumstances of the violent encounter, and aggravated criminal damage to property. The community was left to mourn the loss of a young life as the legal process against the two suspects began.
