In the late summer of 2020, the life of Ronnika Monique Richburg, a 32-year-old Black female, was violently cut short in her Avondale, Louisiana, home. On August 25th, while attending to a client's hair, an act that spoke to her entrepreneurial spirit as the CEO of 'Nola Braid Head,' the day turned tragic. Her former boyfriend, 42-year-old Lloyd Jones, against whom she had recently secured a protective order, forcibly entered the residence.
The protective order was sought after a period of escalating harassment from Jones, which included stalking, incessant phone calls, and property damage.
The terrifying ordeal unfolded in the presence of Richburg's mother, her mother's boyfriend, a client, and her young children. Jones, armed and determined, confronted Richburg, ultimately cornering her in a bathroom where he fatally shot her. In the chaos, her mother's boyfriend was also shot and wounded. Despite the immediate response of law enforcement, Ronnika Richburg was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving behind her devastated family, including a four-year-old son and a thirteen-year-old daughter.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office identified Lloyd Jones as the sole suspect. A warrant was issued for his arrest on multiple charges, including first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, home invasion, obstruction of justice, and violation of a protective order with a firearm. Despite law enforcement's efforts, including collaboration with federal agencies, Jones has remained at large. There is speculation that he may have fled the country, with possible sightings in Mexico or Central America. A reward has been offered for information leading to his arrest and conviction, as the search for justice for Ronnika Richburg continues.
