In September of 2020, 26-year-old Joshua Roshell, a male from Shreveport, Louisiana, was contacted by phone with an offer to purchase marijuana. This proposition led him to a vacant house in the 1800 block of Doris Street, where he was met by three individuals. Instead of a transaction, Mr. Roshell was forced from his vehicle and robbed at gunpoint.
During the course of the robbery, one of the assailants revealed his face to the victim when he removed his hoodie.
Following the robbery, Joshua Roshell was shot once in the head. His attackers then fled the scene in his car, which was later discovered abandoned on Slattery Boulevard. Mr. Roshell's body was found on September 24, 2020. The investigation that followed led to the arrest of Javonpe Deandre Winbush, who was 16 years old at the time of the incident. His case was transferred from juvenile to Caddo District Court.
In March 2023, Javonpe Deandre Winbush pleaded guilty to manslaughter and robbery. He was sentenced to 35 years in prison for his role in the death of Joshua Roshell, with the sentences for each charge to run concurrently. It was reported that two other co-defendants were separately indicted and would face trial. During the investigation, Winbush implicated another individual referred to as 'Ray Ray,' but a lack of corroborating evidence prevented an arrest. Additionally, a co-defendant, who claimed not to be present during the murder and robbery but was later with Winbush in the victim's car, stated that Winbush had confessed to being the one who shot Mr. Roshell. The plea agreement with Winbush was made with the consent of Joshua Roshell's mother.
