In the late summer of 2020, in Monroe, Louisiana, the life of Marshall L. Carter Jr. was cut short at the age of 29. On September 27, the young man was involved in a dispute that tragically escalated to fatal violence. Reports from the time indicate that an argument over a pair of Nike sneakers preceded the shooting that resulted in Carter's death.
