In the late evening of September 28, 2020, in Shreveport, Louisiana, a violent encounter cut short the life of 23-year-old Denzel Jamar Taylor. Responding to reports of a shooting on Wallace Avenue just before 10:00 p.m., Shreveport Police officers discovered a grim scene. Denzel, along with 25-year-old Ladarrien Taylor, was found suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper body.
Both men were immediately transported to Ochsner LSU Health Hospital with life-threatening injuries, but tragically, Denzel succumbed to his wounds.
Investigators from the Homicide and Crime Scene Units quickly began to piece together the events of that night. Through witness interviews and a canvass of the neighborhood for any available video footage, a narrative of the fatal confrontation emerged. Detectives learned that 33-year-old Stanley Goldsby had arrived at the residence and engaged in an argument with one of the victims. The verbal dispute escalated horrifically when Goldsby produced a firearm and shot both Denzel and Ladarrien. After the shooting, Goldsby fled the scene in a vehicle.
In the wake of the deadly shooting, law enforcement officials worked diligently to bring the person responsible to justice. As the investigation progressed, the tragic news that Ladarrien Taylor had also died from his injuries was confirmed. Based on the evidence they had gathered, detectives procured warrants for Stanley Goldsby, initially for one count of second-degree murder and one count of attempted second-degree murder. Following Ladarrien's death, the attempted murder charge was set to be upgraded. A search for Goldsby was initiated, with authorities reaching out to the public for any information regarding his whereabouts. His last known address was on Central Street in Shreveport.
The manhunt for Stanley Goldsby concluded when he was taken into custody in Cass County, Missouri. Arrangements were made for his extradition back to Caddo Parish to face the charges against him. Funeral services for both Denzel Jamar Taylor and Ladarrien LaRoy Taylor were held on Saturday, October 10, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Funeral Home, with their interment following at Bright Star Cemetery.
