In the late hours of October 3, 2020, events were set in motion that would end the life of 26-year-old Demarcus Cunanny Danzell Lewis. That night, Lewis was at a trailer in Mansfield, Louisiana, with a few other people. Also present was 41-year-old Douglas Thomas, who had arrived at the residence. Accounts of Thomas's reasons for being there varied, with some suggesting he was visiting his cousin's girlfriend and Thomas himself claiming he was there to sell methamphetamine.
