On the evening of February 27, 2007, a burst of violence on a Dorchester street cut short the life of Jova Guidroz, a 27-year-old African-American man. At approximately 9:08 p.m., Boston police officers from District 3 received a radio call reporting a person shot at 63 Armandine Street. Upon their arrival, they discovered Guidroz suffering from what appeared to be a fatal gunshot wound.
Emergency Medical Technicians pronounced him deceased at the scene.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later officially ruled Guidroz's death a homicide. His murder was one of several violent incidents that contributed to a concerning increase in homicides in the Dorchester and Mattapan neighborhoods that year, a period marked by escalating gun violence. Despite the severity of the crime and an ongoing investigation by the Boston Police Homicide Unit, no arrests have ever been made in connection with the shooting.
In the years that have passed, the case has grown cold, and the killing of Jova Guidroz remains an unsolved crime. Authorities have periodically urged anyone with information to come forward, appealing to the public for assistance in bringing a resolution to the case and providing answers for his family. Guidroz was later buried in Amityville, New York, as his loved ones continue to mourn his unsolved murder.
