On the evening of Sunday, April 18, 2021, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, a dispute tragically escalated, claiming the life of 50-year-old Shelton L. Watson. Investigators were called to the Colonial Terrace Condominiums on Wooddale Boulevard around 7:00 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Inside one of the apartments, they discovered Watson suffering from what appeared to be fatal gunshot wounds.
Despite the arrival of emergency services, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The subsequent investigation by Baton Rouge Police Detectives swiftly led them to a suspect. The following morning, 28-year-old Tevin Gooden of Baker, Louisiana, was taken into custody. Authorities believe that an argument between Gooden and Watson preceded the deadly shooting. At the time of the incident, Gooden was reportedly out on bond for a prior weapons charge and had a court appearance scheduled for the very next day.
Gooden was subsequently booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. He faced a series of serious charges in connection with the death of Shelton Watson, including second-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, obstruction of justice, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
