In the bright light of a May afternoon in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, tragedy irrevocably altered the course of several lives. On Tuesday, May 25, 2021, Courtney Carlda Whitfield, a 31-year-old male, was fatally shot while on a break from his job at an IHOP restaurant on Siegen Lane. Another employee was also struck by gunfire but survived the harrowing attack. At the time of his death, Whitfield was a participant in a work-release program with the Department of Corrections.
