Mikelia Rasha Busch Williams, a 26-year-old woman, was killed by gunfire on June 5, 2021, in Alexandria, Louisiana. The incident that led to her death began at a Zydeco event held at the local VFW.
According to court documents, Mikelia and another woman, Ke'Undra Mekel Walker, attended the same event with their respective groups of friends. The two women were strangers to one another.
An altercation involving both parties began at the VFW in the early morning hours and eventually moved to a different location.
Following the initial confrontation, the altercation continued on Third Street, where Ke'Undra Mekel Walker fatally shot Mikelia. Walker was later arrested and charged in connection with the shooting. After a two-day jury trial, she was found guilty of second-degree murder. The court sentenced her to life in prison at hard labor without the benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.
