On a tragic Saturday, September 14, 2024, the life of 12-year-old Hope Alexandria Coleman was cut short by an act of gun violence on Cypress Street in Alexandria, Louisiana. The young female was fatally wounded in a shooting that also left her father injured. The incident sent shockwaves through the community, prompting a swift and determined investigation by the Alexandria Police Department with assistance from the Louisiana State Police.
In the days that followed, law enforcement
worked tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice. Their efforts led to the identification of three suspects. The first to be taken into custody was 38-year-old Kayla Wooten, who was arrested on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. The search continued for two brothers, 32-year-old Latraykus May and 31-year-old Deroyce May II, who were considered armed and dangerous.
The pursuit of the remaining suspects concluded with Deroyce May II being captured overnight, followed by Latraykus May turning himself in to authorities on the afternoon of Thursday, September 19, 2024. All three suspects now face serious charges for their alleged involvement in the senseless death of a child. The charges brought against Wooten and both May brothers include Second Degree Murder, Attempted Second Degree Murder, and Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property. They are all being held in custody without bond as the investigation into the heartbreaking loss of Hope Alexandria Coleman continues.
