On a tragic day in Alexandria, Louisiana, a young life was cut short by gun violence. Zareyah Armstead, a 19-year-old Black female, was found in a critical condition on Llewellyn Drive on March 21, 2023. Despite the urgent response and transportation to a local hospital by Acadian Ambulance Service, she succumbed to her injuries a short time later.
The Alexandria Police Department swiftly launched an investigation into the homicide.
Their efforts led to the identification of a suspect, 20-year-old Jo'Quarious O. Davis, also a resident of Alexandria. A search for Davis ensued in the area around Culpepper, which was described as chaotic by witnesses at the scene.
Following the search, Jo'Quarious O. Davis was apprehended and taken into custody. He was subsequently charged with one count of second-degree murder in connection with the death of Zareyah Armstead. The case is considered solved with the arrest of the suspect. Zareyah was the daughter of Shawntae Armstead and the late William K.C. Vercher.
