In the summer of 2021, a burst of violence on a street in Ruston, Louisiana, claimed the life of DeAnthony Davis, a 22-year-old Black male. On the evening of June 29th, officers from the Ruston Police Department were called to Wyoming Avenue after reports of a shooting. Arriving at the scene, they found Davis lying in the roadway with a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical services were quickly on the scene and transported Davis to the Northern Louisiana Medical Center.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The incident left the local community in shock and mourning the loss of a young life.
In the days that followed, the Ruston Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division, aided by the cooperation of citizens, worked to identify a suspect. Their investigation led them to 20-year-old Jayson France. An arrest warrant was issued for France on July 1st, and he was subsequently taken into custody.
France was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of DeAnthony Davis. He was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center to await further legal proceedings. The arrest brought a measure of resolution to the initial phase of the investigation, though the legal process was just beginning.
