On October 9, 2021, a 29-year-old male from Mission, Texas, Jose L. Mosqueda Jr., was found deceased in Sulphur, Louisiana. The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a call regarding a shooting at a residence on Post Oak Road around noon. Upon arrival, deputies discovered Mr. Mosqueda with what appeared to be a fatal gunshot wound.
Present at the scene was Oscar R. Lucero, a 34-year-old from Hidalgo, Texas, who was identified as the suspect and taken into custody. Mr.
Lucero informed detectives that he and Mr. Mosqueda were coworkers who had gone out for drinks after their shift. They later returned to the residence on Post Oak Road, where Mr. Lucero was staying for work.
According to Mr. Lucero's account to the authorities, an altercation broke out between the two men. He alleged that Mr. Mosqueda attempted to stab him, which led to Mr. Lucero shooting Mr. Mosqueda multiple times. Investigators noted that Mr. Lucero had a superficial laceration on his shoulder. Following further investigation and interviews with witnesses, Oscar R. Lucero was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. He was subsequently booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center.
