On Christmas Day in 2021, a dispute in Monroe, Louisiana, escalated into a tragedy that claimed the life of 41-year-old Fransqwur Eugene Harris. An African American male, Harris was a graduate of Wossman High School, where he had been active in varsity football and track and field. He was an employee of Frontier Railroad Services and was a father and grandfather.
That day, Monroe Police were dispatched to the 2400 block of Deloach Street, where they discovered Harris with multiple
gunshot wounds. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The investigation that followed pointed to a man who was reportedly a close friend of Harris's family. Some accounts even suggest that Harris had raised the suspect.
Shortly after the incident, authorities identified 30-year-old Latron Jones as the suspect. A few days later, on December 28, 2021, Jones turned himself into the authorities. He was subsequently charged with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Fransqwur Harris. The case highlighted the devastating impact of violence within close-knit relationships.
