Seven-year-old Dillan Lauren Burton was fatally shot in New Orleans, Louisiana, on the evening of December 26, 2021. The young girl was a passenger in her mother's car, traveling with her mother and sister, when the shooting occurred. The incident happened at approximately 8:43 p.m. at the intersection of General DeGaulle Drive and Hendee Street in the Algiers neighborhood.
Dillan was struck by a bullet and died from her injuries.
The second-grader at Success at Thurgood Marshall was remembered by her family as a student who loved to dance. Her mother described her as the light of her life.
As of August 2023, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. Authorities have described the suspect's vehicle as a newer model white and silver Chevrolet pickup truck with a bed cover. Crimestoppers has offered a reward, which was increased to $15,000, for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Dillan's death. Callers can remain anonymous and do not have to testify to be eligible for the reward.
