In the early afternoon of February 16, 2022, a physical altercation in the street escalated into deadly violence, claiming the life of 26-year-old Anthony Percy. The fatal encounter occurred around 1:11 p.m. in a neighborhood off Plank Road, specifically in the 5100 block of Paige Street in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Percy was pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wounds.
The Baton Rouge Police Department's Homicide Detectives immediately began an investigation into the shooting death.
Their efforts led them to identify a suspect in the case. The investigation pointed to Leamos Byrd III, who was 20 years old at the time, as the individual responsible for Percy's death. Byrd was located and taken into custody in St. James Parish on unrelated charges before being extradited to Baton Rouge to face consequences for the events of that February afternoon.
Following his extradition, Leamos Byrd III was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. He was formally charged with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Anthony Percy. The arrest brought a measure of progress in a case that began with a street fight and ended in a tragic loss of life, leaving family and friends to mourn the sudden and violent death of a young man.
