In the early hours of Monday, April 18, 2022, a dispute that began at a restaurant in Lafayette, Louisiana, tragically escalated, leading to the death of Austin Paw/poppi Michael G, a 22-year-old Black / African American male. The night's events culminated in a fatal shooting on Interstate 10, leaving a community in mourning and a family seeking answers.
Austin was a passenger in a vehicle traveling on I-10 near mile marker 105 at approximately 2:00 a.m.
when another car approached and its occupants opened fire. The vehicle carrying Austin was struck by multiple rounds of gunfire. Inside, three individuals were hit. Austin sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other occupants of the car were also injured in the attack and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. One of the injured was treated and released, while the other remained in stable condition.
