In the late hours of a Saturday night in Shreveport, Louisiana, a transaction turned fatal, ending the life of 31-year-old Jeremy Glenn Wyatt. On June 25, 2022, Wyatt, a male, met another individual at a Shell gas station on West 70th Street for what prosecutors would later describe as a marijuana deal. Shortly after 11:30 p.m., the encounter escalated, and Wyatt was shot multiple times while sitting in his car.
Emergency services were called to the scene, but Wyatt was pronounced dead from his injuries, marking the 33rd homicide in Shreveport that year.
The Shreveport Police Department's Violent Crimes and Crime Scene Units immediately began an investigation. Detectives canvassed the area for witnesses and collected evidence from the scene. Their investigation soon pointed to a suspect, and on August 4, 2022, authorities arrested Lloyd Tremaine Cooks in connection with the shooting. Cooks was taken into custody without incident and subsequently charged with one count of second-degree murder, bringing a swift development in the case that had shaken the local community.
The legal proceedings against Lloyd Cooks culminated in a trial where he was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Victoria Washington and Courtney Ray. On June 11, 2025, a jury found the 22-year-old Cooks guilty of the second-degree murder of Jeremy Wyatt. The conviction carried a heavy sentence. On August 11, 2025, District Judge Chris Victory sentenced Cooks to life in prison at hard labor without the possibility of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence. In addition to the life sentence, Cooks received an additional 10-year term for violating probation from a prior conviction for aggravated battery, ensuring he would spend the remainder of his life behind bars for the murder that transpired at the gas station.
