Kerry Spears Jr., a 31-year-old African American male, was a native and resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, who had his life cut short on the evening of Tuesday, August 30, 2022. A graduate of O. Perry Walker High School's class of 2010, he had furthered his education at Delgado Community College, where he earned an Associate Degree in General Studies.
He was known as a beloved son, a devoted brother, and a loving grandson to his family.
On that fateful evening, at approximately 8:30 PM, the New Orleans Police Department received a call about an aggravated battery at the intersection of Louisiana and Loyola avenues, an area situated between the Central City and Freret neighborhoods. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Kerry with multiple gunshot wounds to his body. Despite the immediate response and efforts of emergency medical technicians, his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office later officially identified the victim as Kerry Spears Jr. and confirmed that the cause of death was the multiple gunshot wounds he sustained.
