In the late afternoon of August 22, 2019, tragedy struck at a gas station in New Orleans East, claiming the life of 43-year-old Sylvester Snow. The incident, which unfolded around 5 p.m. in the 6700 block of Chef Menteur Highway, also resulted in the death of another man, 34-year-old Wilbert Bias III. The scene of the crime was centered around a red pickup truck, which was riddled with bullet holes, parked in front of the Discount Zone gas station.
Emergency services responded to a call
of an aggravated battery by shooting and, upon arrival, discovered both Mr. Snow and Mr. Bias suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of first responders, both men were pronounced dead at the scene. The New Orleans Police Department launched an investigation into the double homicide, with detectives working to gather evidence and identify the person or persons responsible, as well as a motive for the shooting.
In the immediate aftermath, the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office confirmed the identities of the victims. The investigation into the deaths of Sylvester Snow and Wilbert Bias III was led by the NOPD's homicide division.
