On August 20, 2015, Winston Brown, a 16-year-old student at Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth, Texas, suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the face. The incident occurred at a friend's apartment in the 5600 block of Shallow Run in Benbrook, a suburb of Fort Worth. According to Benbrook police, Winston and his friend were "carelessly" handling a .22 caliber rifle, which they believed to be non-functional, as it had not fired during previous handling two weeks prior.
