On the evening of September 23, 2022, a sense of foreboding hung in the air for 30-year-old Reginel Golman, a male resident of Marrero, Louisiana. Earlier that day, he had received a chilling phone call from his incarcerated brother, warning him that someone had put 'a bag on his head,' signifying a hit had been ordered on his life. The man at the center of this threat was identified as 23-year-old Kintez 'Kutta' Johnson.
Despite the ominous warning and his family's pleas to stay away from Johnson, Golman found himself in Johnson's company later that day.
The fateful evening unfolded at a convenience store at the intersection of Fourth Street and Ames Boulevard. Golman and his girlfriend had driven to the store, with Johnson riding in the back seat. After Golman went inside, he instructed his girlfriend to drop Johnson off at a nearby apartment complex. She complied and returned to the store, where Golman then moved to the front passenger seat of their vehicle. Shortly after, a masked Johnson approached the car. After a brief exchange of words with Golman, Johnson brandished a semiautomatic pistol and opened fire, striking Golman multiple times as he sat helpless in the car.
In the chaotic moments that followed, Golman's girlfriend, who was in the driver's seat, initially tried to drive away before seeking refuge inside the store as gunfire erupted. The store's owners quickly locked the doors. She then returned to the car to find Golman still alive. His last words were a plea to be taken to his mother's house: “Take me home by my momma.” She sped to his mother's home on Silver Lilly Lane and 911 was called, but it was too late. Reginel Golman succumbed to his injuries, slumping over in the front passenger seat. He had sustained 15 bullet wounds.
Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office detectives swiftly identified Kintez Johnson as the prime suspect through witness testimony and the convenience store's surveillance footage. A few days later, Johnson was located and arrested at a motel in New Orleans East. The investigation was further aided by a recorded prison phone call in which Golman had told his brother about the threat from Johnson, identifying him by name.
In October 2024, a Jefferson Parish jury found Kintez 'Kutta' Johnson guilty of the second-degree murder of Reginel Golman. In addition to the murder charge, Johnson was also convicted of aggravated assault with a firearm for endangering Golman's girlfriend, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and obstruction of justice for disposing of the murder weapon. The firearm was later recovered on October 7, 2022, in a Kenner bar after being found in the possession of an intoxicated patron who had no connection to the homicide. For the murder of Reginel Golman, Kintez Johnson was sentenced to life in prison.
