In the quiet city of Lake Charles, Louisiana, a grim discovery brought a tragic end to the life of 60-year-old Sandra Margaret Reder Ardoin. On October 13, 2022, her life, alongside that of her husband, was cut short by an act of violence that would only come to light after a tense police standoff.
The events leading to the discovery began to unfold when the Lake Charles Police Department received a distressing call about a naked man brandishing a firearm in a residential neighborhood.
Responding officers located the individual, and the encounter escalated to the point where an officer discharged their weapon, striking the man. Wounded, the man retreated into a nearby home, prompting a response from the SWAT unit. Utilizing a robot to safely assess the situation, law enforcement found the armed man deceased inside the residence.
Upon entering the home to secure the scene, a more heartbreaking discovery was made. Officers found the bodies of Sandra Ardoin and her 62-year-old husband, Lee Edward Ardoin. Both had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. According to the Calcasieu Parish Coroner's Office, it is believed that the couple had been killed two days prior to being found.
The suspect in the double homicide was identified as Christopher Lee Ardoin. It was later revealed that Sandra Ardoin was his mother. He was also the individual who had been fatally shot by police. The motive behind the tragic events remains part of the ongoing investigation. Sandra, a dedicated nurse, had been a respected employee at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital for nearly three decades.
