In the early morning hours of August 19, 2024, the life of Courtney Aundra Grogan, a 39-year-old female from Lake Charles, Louisiana, was tragically cut short. Responding to a call for assistance, Lake Charles Police officers discovered a grim scene inside an apartment on Bradley Street. Courtney and her companion, 40-year-old Cyrille Mitchel Jr., were both found deceased.
The investigation quickly turned into a double homicide case, leaving a community in shock and a family devastated.
Courtney was a mother of three, and horrifically, her children were present in the apartment at the time of the killings. The investigation into the double homicide revealed a troubling connection to the fathers of her children. Detectives identified two men, Sheltren Terel Tucker, 38, and Desmond Duriel Brown, 39, as suspects in the murders. Both Tucker and Brown had fathered children with Courtney.
On August 29, 2024, authorities located and arrested both suspects. Sheltren Terel Tucker was apprehended in Port Arthur, Texas, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal's Office. Just fifteen minutes later, Desmond Duriel Brown was taken into custody in Welsh, Louisiana, by the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff's Office. Tucker was charged with first-degree murder and home invasion, with his bond set at $2.1 million. Brown faced a charge of principal to first-degree murder, and his bond was set at $1.5 million. The investigation pointed to a coordinated act that ended the lives of Courtney Grogan and Cyrille Mitchell Jr., leaving their loved ones to mourn a senseless loss.
