In Lafayette, Louisiana, on November 30, 2022, the life of 22-year-old Kerrington Sam, a Black male, was tragically cut short. The incident that led to his death unfolded around noon at the Greystone Apartments located on Reserve Drive. Lafayette Police Department officers were dispatched to the scene following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered that Sam had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
The investigation into the homicide progressed swiftly, and later that same
day, an arrest was made in connection with the shooting. The suspect was identified as 20-year-old Dillon Louviere, also from Lafayette. Following his arrest, Louviere was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center. He is facing a charge of second-degree murder for his alleged involvement in Kerrington Sam's death.
Kerrington Nicholas Sam was born on January 11, 2000, in Lafayette. He was remembered for his love of people, family, and sports, particularly basketball, in which he excelled. He graduated from Lafayette High School in 2018 and had pursued his athletic ambitions at IMG Academy and Spire Training Institute. Those who knew him described him as having an infectious smile and an easy-going personality. As of a report from mid-2025, Dillon Louviere was still awaiting trial for his alleged role in the murder.
