Rayshawn Rogers, a 33-year-old Black man from Columbus, Ohio, was shot on the evening of September 19, 2024. The attack happened in the South Linden neighborhood, on the 1100 block of East 12th Avenue. According to police, four individuals got out of a stolen red Ford Escape and fired multiple gunshots at a residence. Rogers was struck in the face.
He was rushed to a hospital in critical condition but died from his injuries two days later, on September 21.
The Columbus Police Homicide Unit began an investigation that quickly centered on evidence recovered from the scene and witness accounts. Investigators found the stolen Ford Escape used in the shooting and recovered fingerprints from inside belonging to three individuals. Detectives also obtained surveillance video that showed four men wearing the same clothing in the hours leading up to the attack. This evidence led police to identify four suspects.
On October 3, 2024, authorities announced a series of arrests. Sincere Langford, 18, and Terrell Felton, 21, were taken into custody by SWAT officers. Terrell’s brother, 19-year-old Kenrell Felton, turned himself in to police that same day. The fourth suspect, 20-year-old Marcus Person Jr., was arrested the following morning. All four men were initially charged with murder in connection with Rayshawn Rogers' death.
The case concluded in February 2026 when all four defendants pleaded guilty to their roles in the killing. Sincere Langford, Terrell Felton, Kenrell Felton, and Marcus Person each pleaded guilty to one count of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of attempted murder, and one count of discharging a firearm. As a result of the plea agreements, each man faced an aggregate sentence of 25 to 30 years in prison. According to the Franklin County prosecutor's office, no motive was stated for the killing. The office also noted that this case was not related to a 2022 homicide case in which Rogers had been a suspect before the charges against him were dropped.
