Marion Copeland, a 38-year-old male of Black ethnicity, tragically died on September 23, 2022, in Columbus, OH. He was found with multiple gunshot wounds in an alley near East Hudson Street. Copeland was transported to Grant Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The incident was classified as a homicide, and the Columbus Division of Police launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
The investigation revealed that Copeland
was confronted by a group of males, one of whom pulled out a handgun and shot him multiple times. Witnesses reported that Copeland was standing in the alley when the group approached him. Surveillance video footage showed Devon Robinson, one of the suspects, pulling out a firearm and shooting Copeland. Robinson later turned himself in and admitted his involvement during an interview with the Columbus Police Department.
In addition to Robinson, three other suspects—Rayshawn Rogers, Christian Capers, and Damon Capers—were identified and charged with murder. The suspects were believed to have acted in revenge for the accidental overdose death of Lithasha Streeter, who allegedly ingested tainted fentanyl sold by Copeland. Streeter was a possible relative of one of the suspects, Rayshawn Rogers. The suspects fled the scene in vehicles, and efforts to locate them continued as the investigation progressed.
The case drew significant attention from law enforcement and the community, with the Columbus Division of Police urging anyone with information to come forward. The investigation remains ongoing, with the police department actively seeking additional evidence and witnesses to bring those responsible to justice.
