Roy Lee Jones, a 25-year-old African American man, tragically died on December 30, 1991, in Cairo, Illinois. His death was the result of a shooting incident involving John McDonald, a white police officer from Cairo. The incident occurred in the parking lot of a grocery store, where Jones was involved in a physical altercation with Officer McDonald. During the altercation, McDonald fired 14 shots with his service weapon, with the final bullet striking and killing Jones.
