Cristopher L. Nelson, a 34-year-old African American male, was tragically shot and killed on June 16, 2015, in Cairo, Illinois. The incident occurred late at night, and Nelson was pronounced dead at St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau. The suspect, Marquad Harris, an 18-year-old African American male, was formally charged with five counts of murder for the shooting. Harris was later convicted of first-degree murder in Alexander County, Illinois.
