The incident occurred when Luther "Luke" Casteel, a 42-year-old male, returned to the bar after being ejected for harassing female patrons. Enraged and heavily armed, Casteel opened fire inside the crowded establishment, resulting in the deaths of Richard Bartlett and 38-year-old bartender Jeffrey Weides, along with injuries to 21 others.
