Thomas Alan Cook, a 43-year-old White male, was working a quiet surveillance shift near the Metra Electric Line stop at 147th and Clinton in Harvey, Illinois, on September 27, 2006.
A rash of armed robberies had drawn him there. As he sat in his marked patrol car across from the station, someone walked up to the driver's side and opened fire without warning, striking him in the head, then stealing his service weapon before fleeing into the night.
